Beyond the Classroom

St Bartholomew’s has adopted the five foundations for building character as outlined in the Government’s vision and has also included a sixth area ‘Environment’ in line with its whole school ethos.  Time is dedicated to developing a wide range of skills and attributes to promote and instil these important qualities.

SPORT could include competitive sport and activities, and purposeful recreational activities such as running, martial arts, swimming, orienteering, fitness programmes and yoga.

CREATIVITY could include all kinds of creative, thoughtful and inventive activities such as coding, arts and crafts, creative writing, film making and composing music.

PERFORMING emphasises more expressive activities for individuals or in a group including: dance, drama, musical performance, singing in a choir, debating or public speaking.

VOLUNTEERING, MEMBERSHIP & LEADERSHIP brings together teams for practical action in the service of others such as volunteering, litter-picking and fundraising. This might extend to structured youth programmes or uniformed groups outside of school like Beavers, Brownies, Cubs and Guides.

WORLD OF WORK could involve any activity that helps to prepare pupils with practical experience of the world of work such as technology, STEM, work experience, learning about careers, entrepreneurialism and opportunities to meet role models from different jobs.

ENVIRONMENT and the ‘Harmony’ Principles: caring for and respecting each other and the environment, our role in valuing nature and the world around us and sustainability.

Courageous Advocacy

Watch our video!

At St Bartholomew’s, we actively encourage pupils to think widely and deeply about issues (asking ‘WHY?’) and thinking about creative solutions to problems (asking ‘what can be done about it?’).

What is Courageous Advocacy?
Taking social action – coming together to tackle an issue, support each other or improve our local area
Doing things for the common good
Speaking out against injustice
Becoming agents of change (making a difference!)
Empowering pupils to be active global citizens

All pupils at St Bartholomew’s are encouraged to become Courageous Advocates – not simply doing something good because they have been asked to do so, but because they want to do it and it is their idea!

A courageous advocate is someone who champions a cause which is special and meaningful to them.

After School Clubs

St. Bartholomew’s strives to provide a diverse selection of after school clubs which run from 3.30pm to 4.15pm. The children show commitment, dedication and enthusiasm which impacts greatly on their confidence and development as individuals.

Each term, a letter will be sent out asking parents/carers to advise which club(s) their child would like to attend. Where possible we aim to offer each child their first choice of club and parents are advised accordingly. A fee of £3 is charged for each club session, payable half termly through Parent Pay.

Clubs offered and rotated on a termly basis include:
